Example A:

I must inform you that I have accepted a position with another corporation. Thus, I am resigning from (company); my last day of employment will be on Monday May 2nd, 2005.

I have been on the (department) staff for nearly (number) years, and I have enjoyed a close working relationship with you in (describe the work you did). 

I am excited and enthusiastic about my new position. My decision in no way reflects on your management style or effectiveness. I request that you support me in my last days at (company) to make my transition as smooth as possible.

I have weighed the pros and cons of my decision, and it was thoughtfully made.

I will be available to assist in the transition of project leadership from today through (last day), after which I will avail myself of some of the remaining (days) accumulated in my vacation balance.
